iLOQ S50 · FAQ

Lock won't open?
Find the fix in seconds.

Your phone is your key. Below are the most common situations with the exact steps to fix them.

Download on the App Store Get it on Google Play

Unlocking and NFC

I hold my phone to the lock, but it won't open

The iLOQ lock has no battery — it draws the energy to open from your phone's NFC field. That's why it needs firm and long-enough contact.

  1. Open the iLOQ S50 app and keep it on screen.
  2. Place the back of your phone directly on the lock reader.
  3. Hold still for at least 3 seconds until the key is read and the knob unlocks.
Tip: The app shows you exactly where to hold the phone — it displays a target marking the NFC antenna position for your phone model. Hold that spot against the lock.
The app says "No valid keys" / "Refresh keys"

For security reasons, the key has limited validity and must be refreshed from the server regularly.

  1. Move somewhere with internet — Wi-Fi or mobile data.
  2. Open the app and pull the screen down, or tap Refresh keys.
  3. Wait until the key updates. After that, the lock opens even without signal.
Note: Our storage facilities have good mobile signal. In case of a network outage or other problem, refresh the key in an area with an internet connection.
Phone doesn't react at all – NFC is off or missing

The app can only open the lock via NFC. If it's off, nothing happens.

  1. Open Settings → Connections (or search for "NFC").
  2. Turn NFC on and try again.

Older and cheaper phones may not have NFC at all. If you can't find it in settings, contact us and we'll provide you with a FOB chip to open the lock instead of a phone.

Thick protective case or a metal plate on your phone?

Thick, metal or rugged cases and the metal plate from a magnetic car mount can weaken NFC or block it completely. The S50 lock has no battery and draws energy from your phone, so even a small loss is enough to keep it from opening.

  1. Remove the thick or metal case and place the phone directly against the knob.
  2. If there is a metal plate from a magnetic mount on the phone or under the case, remove it.
  3. Take payment and other contactless cards out of the case — they interfere too.
Tip: A magnet itself doesn't interfere with NFC — the problem is metal (a plate or metal cover) between the phone and the lock. A MagSafe ring is usually fine. If needed, you can use a digital FOB chip, which we will send you on request.
The app says "Access denied"

The app sees the lock, but access is denied. This is usually an expired key, an unpaid rent payment, an ended rental, or access-rights settings.

Only we can fix this on the management side. Contact us and we'll restore access — usually within moments.

iPhone: Apple Pay/Wallet opens, or I have to hold for a long time
  1. Update the iLOQ S50 app to the latest version — older Apple Pay issues are already fixed.
  2. Hold the phone to the lock with the spot the app marks with a target on screen (the top part on iPhone).
  3. Keep the app open in the foreground and hold until the lock opens.
My phone's time is set manually – the lock won't open

The iLOQ app requires the phone to use automatic date and time from the network. With manually set time the key is evaluated as invalid and the lock won't open.

  1. Open Settings → Date & time (iPhone: General → Date & Time).
  2. Turn on Set automatically.
  3. Refresh the keys in the app and try again.

Activation and SMS

The registration link doesn't work or no SMS/e-mail arrived

The order matters: app first, then the link.

  1. Install the iLOQ S50 app from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Only then tap the registration link from the SMS or e-mail.

If the link only opens in a browser and the key doesn't register, or no message arrived at all, check your spam folder and contact us — we'll send a new link.

I reinstalled the app or have a new phone

After reinstalling the app or switching phones, the original key stops working.

Contact us and we'll send you a new registration link. The old link won't work again.

Phone and app

Will the lock open when my phone is almost out of battery?

The lock draws energy from your phone's NFC field. With a nearly dead battery the field is weak and opening may fail.

Charge the phone to at least 15–20 % and try again. Better to arrive at the storage with a charged phone.

The app won't open, crashes or shows a black screen
  1. Close the app and open it again, or restart your phone.
  2. If that doesn't help, uninstall and reinstall the app — then request a new registration link from us.
  3. Also check your internet connection; the iLOQ server is occasionally briefly unavailable.
iLOQ notifications don't show up (Android)

Allow notifications for the app in your phone settings:

Settings → Apps → iLOQ S50 → Notifications and turn them on.

My work phone won't open the lock

Work phones under company management (MDM) may block the app or the NFC function.

Ask your company's IT department to allow the iLOQ S50 app and the use of NFC.

No internet on site – will I open the lock?

Yes. You don't need internet to open the lock itself, as long as your key is valid.

Internet is only needed for the initial registration and refreshing keys — do those in advance somewhere with signal.

I can't or don't want to use the mobile key – is there an alternative?

Yes. Instead of the mobile key you can use a rechargeable FOB chip — hold it to the lock just like a phone.

  1. Write or call us and rent the chip.
  2. We can send it to you via Packeta, no need to go anywhere.

This service is paid. The mobile key on your phone is provided free of charge.
